Muggers and robbers in Holland should have their trainers confiscated to teach them a lesson about the impact of their crimes, the mayor of Amsterdam has said.
Mayor Job Cohen, who heads the police in Amsterdam, has instructed law enforcers to treat robbers the same as organised criminals by confiscating their assets.
“We really have to try everything to bring down the number of muggings. It is clear we need to find new methods to change the trend,” he told the De Telegraaf newspaper. “Confiscating their fancy shoes might sound daft, but it could be an effective measure.”
