Almost two months on no-one has claimed €400,000 found in old stone wall

Almost two months on from an amazing find by GNR agents in Penafiel, and no-one has come forwards claiming the €400,000 found in various cash boxes hidden in an old stone wall (click here).

If this situation persists – and if the Public Ministry inquiry into the origins of the money ends up being inconclusive – the money will simply revert to the State.

For now, it has been deposited in the bank account of the institute of financial management and Justice equipment (IGFEJ).

As reports explain, if the origin of the money is traced, and it turns out to be criminal (which is current thinking: that it relates to drug trafficking) then it would still revert to the State.
