Almost 60% of Portuguese doctors favour of the legalisation of euthanasia, a study has revealed.
Published in the Iberoamerican Journal of Bioethics, the study by CINTESIS – the centre of investigation of technologies and health services – heard 251 professionals in six northern hospitals and 15 health centres.
Results showed that doctors felt patients’ suffering should be the overriding factor – “above respect for autonomy, even when this is compromised”.
