Almost 60% of Portugal’s poor have jobs

Living on the breadline in Portugal doesn’t mean one doesn’t have a job: almost 60% of the nation’s poor work, and still don’t have enough to make ends meet. This is the result of a new study led by sociologist Fernando Diogo of the University of the Azores. It shows that “practically a third of all workers and almost half of those unemployed live in poverty. Low qualifications, low salaries, adult children out of work and illness in the family explains the scenario”.
