The 36th edition of Portugal’s most famous international cross country run, on several occasions considered one of the best in the world, the Cross das Amendoeiras em Flor, will take place on Albufeira’s Açoteias track this Sunday afternoon.
Around 3,500 athletes will be in action all day with the main women’s and men’s events scheduled to get underway at 3.30pm and 4pm respectively.
As in previous years, Kenya has fielded the strongest entries in both races with the likes of Eunice Jepkorir and Maria Jepkoech expected to dominate Eastern European and domestic challengers among the women, while Kiprono Menjo, Phillemon Kemei and Cybrian Koyuy will be hard to pass even for fellow East Africans Mohamed Burka and Melaku Belachew representing Ethiopia.
