Almargem hosts meeting to unveil plans to ‘Revitalise Monchique’

Environmental association Almargem will be hosting a meeting to announce the events and initiatives behind a project to breathe new life into Monchique. It will be held on Friday, October 18, at the local Junta de Freguesia from 4pm.

Entitled ‘Revitalizar Monchique – o turismo como catalizador’ (Revitalising Monchique – tourism as a catalyst), the project aims to help Monchique ‘get back on its feet’ after the devastating wildfire that broke out in the area in the summer of 2018. The blaze destroyed thousands of hectares of forest area and came dangerously close to the town.

The plan is to recover hiking and cycling trails that were destroyed by the wildfire, create new ones, organise workshops for tourism entrepreneurs and carry out many other initiatives to help Monchique not only return to normal but “become an even more attractive destination than before”.

The meeting will be open to businesspeople, associations and the local community.

If you want to take part, you can send an email to the association ([email protected]) stating your name, the company or entity you are representing (if applicable), your address and contact information.
