Local politicians have decided to rename some of Almancil’s streets in honour of illustrious deceased residents. Largo do Poeta Clementino Domingos Baeta is set to be renamed Rua Völker Huber, in honour of the director of São Lourenço Cultural Centre, who died last May. The poet Clementino Baeta is also going to have his name celebrated in the square next to the community centre where he was born.
In another change of name, the artery road that links the roundabout of Avenida José dos Santos Farias and Rua do Emigrante will now be called Rua do Centro Comunitário, in recognition of the institution that has given so much life to the town.
