Almancil handover

On June 29, at a ceremony followed by dinner and dancing held at Karting Almancil, Volker Biebesheimer took over the Presidency of Almancil International Rotary Club from current President, Keith Johnson.

Due to illness, President Keith was unable to be present but he was competently represented by his partner Allison and the Club’s master of ceremonies Uschi Kuhn.

After a short review of last year’s activities, Uschi made the formal handover of the presidency to the new president, Volker.

In recognition of her hard work in organising events to raise funds, Uschi herself was later presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship, an award named after the founder of the Rotary Organisation.

Uschi Kuhn’s outstanding work included the fundraising for the renovation of a theatre bus for Associação Companhia de Teatro do Algarve (ACTA), which will tour villages bringing plays and other entertainment to children who would not ordinarily be able to visit a theatre.

A total of €12,500 was raised by the club for this project.

President Volker informed the members and guests present that fund-raising activities for the forthcoming year will be geared towards reducing hunger in the Algarve.

The club, which holds its meetings on Wednesdays at lunchtime in English, is pleased to hear from anyone interested in their work and welcomes Rotarians and their guests from other countries.
