All system go for Algarveans panto!

Residents and visitors to the Algarve are gearing up for their annual dose of pantomime fun.
The Algarveans have been rehearsing hard for this year’s offering of ‘Robin Hood and Babes in the Wood’ — oh no, they haven’t, oh yes, they have — and are hoping their show will be as good, if not better, than the 19 pantos that have gone before.
Lots of laughs are assured for the audience as the Algarveans Experimental Drama Group members take to the stage for the show, packed with all the usual characters — the hero, the baddie and the dame, etc — and some great original musical numbers.
The wealthy Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Panto villain veteran Des Briggs, is planning to make himself even richer by preying on the Babes, Pip and Penny (Orla Ferrie and Jasmine Mack).
They have been recently orphaned and are heir to a great fortune, but for the Sheriff to succeed in his dastardly quest he will have to overcome folk hero Robin Hood, played by Sam Black.
Robin can count on the help of his love interest Maid Marion (Jessica Mota) and his loyal band of followers, Little John, Will Scarlet, Alana Dale and Friar Tuck, played respectively by Duncan Shuurman, Jan Shepheard, Jenny Hart and Steve Smith.
He might also gain the help of the scatter-brained Fairy Nitwit (Boe Williams), Nurse Mollycoddle (Tony Sanders) and Dangerous Dave (Ray Sawyer). Completing the cast as a dopey baddie-duo are Block and Tackle played by mother and daughter combo Gloria and Lara Costa.
The show is directed by Trevor Herrington who is being ably assisted by Orla Ferrie. Choreography is by Karen Barroso of Fit 2 Dance with the show being written by Damian Trasler, David Lovesy and Steve Clark.
The show is playing at Lagoa Auditorium from Wednesday to Friday, March 12 to 14 at 8pm.
Tickets are on sale at €10 for adults and €5 for children.
