FOR THE second consecutive year, the Algarve Stadium in Faro will play host to the Luís Figo Foundation’s All Stars Charity Football match on July 2, at 8.45pm. The Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA), the regional tourist board, will be just one of the sponsors of the initiative, which assists deprived people, in association with the Luís Figo Foundation and the Ronald McDonald children’s foundation.
Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the first ever Ronald McDonald house, designed to offer temporary accommodation to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
About 30,000 spectators are expected at the Algarve Stadium to see their sporting idols perform in an event that will be transmitted all over the world. Final names of competitors have not yet been released, but AC Milan’s Rui Costa and Real Madrid’s Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos are believed to be taking part.
Major stars from the world sports arena will be returning to the Algarve this summer to take part in the All Stars ‘05 charity football match, which is being promoted by Starzone, the Luís Figo Foundation and the Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation. Last summer, such names as Ronaldo, Paul Gascoine, Sir Bobby Charlton and motor racing ace, Michael Schumacher, to name just a few, put on their boots for the game at the Algarve Stadium. Already confirmed to play this year are Luís Figo (pictured), Rui Costa, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Bobby Robson. The event will be televised and is being considered as one of the main pre-season sporting events of 2005/2006. The match starts at 8.45pm and tickets are now on sale. Seats cost between 10 and 30 euros and there is a special price of 10 euros for children under 16. Tickets can be purchased from the tourism offices at Quarteira, Loulé, Albufeira, Lagos and Faro, or from Modelo supermarkets.
