Madeleine’s grandparents arrived yesterday afternoon to support their family.
The family had been critical of the Portuguese authorities handling of the investigation, but British Ambassador Sir John Buck, who arrived at 7.30pm was supportive of the efforts and made this statement:-
“I have been in touch with the national chief of police during the course of the day and the also with the chief of police here in the Algarve and they have assured me that everything possible is being done. There is an intensive and extensive search underway and that will continue into the night.”
However the lack of visible searches around the Praia da Luz area last night, and the disappearance of the helicopter at around 4.30pm created a somber mood amoung the journalists with speculation.
