All change at CCDR Algarve and in the north

The new presidents of the CCDR (commission for the coordination of regional development) have been announced, following political “removals” prompted by last November’s change in government.

In the Algarve, this means local PSD party leader David Santos is replaced by Francisco Serra – already a government choice for one of the members of the board running Faro hospital – while in the north of Portugal, economist Francisco Freire de Sousa takes over.

The change-over lacked any kind of bonhomie.

Sousa’s predecessor Emídio Gomes was removed from his post for “the repeated non-compliance with instructions on matters inherent with the exercise of his functions”, reports Observador, while Santos was found lacking in the “necessary conditions to observe instructions emanating from above”.
