Aljezur will be celebrating its famous sweet potatoes with another edition of its Sweet Potato Festival between November 24 and 26.
Taking place at the Espaço Multiusos de Aljezur, the event aims to highlight the local ‘Lyra’ variety which makes the borough’s sweet potatoes such a sough-after product.
Organisers are promising a long list of attractions and entertainment, including restaurants serving an “incredible variety of dishes, both traditional and innovative” which star the local sweet potato, cooking demonstrations, and exhibitors selling ceramics, clothing, jewellery, and regional products.
There will also be activities for children, a sweets competition in which confectioners will put their skills to the test, and a musical entertainment programme.
“The Sweet Potato Festival of Aljezur is a celebration of the community and a tribute to farmers and local producers who play a crucial role in preserving the cultural and culinary heritage of the region,” says the Municipal Council of Aljezur.
“The Aljezur Sweet Potato Producers Association has played a key role in promoting this quality product, a concern reflected both in the association’s actions and in the municipality itself. The festival is also a moment to celebrate the unique ‘Lyra’ variety, contributing to the reputation of the world’s best sweet potato.”
Admission is free, with doors opening at 12 noon and closing at 2am.
