Council plans to turn it into a multifaceted hub
Aljezur Council is seeking to renovate and take over the management of the old GNR police station at Odeceixe beach.
The goal is turn it into a multifaceted hub which would be used as a local tourist office, a support station for the local beach doctor in the summer and a venue for meetings, says the council.
The building, which according to the council boasts “unique characteristics” and is set in a “privileged location”, has been closed for several years and ultimately abandoned.
Hoping to breathe new life into it, the council has presented a €150,000 bid to manage it for a 50-year period and renovate it through a government programme aimed at transferring the management of public heritage to local authorities.
“This is a building with an excellent location, which is in urgent need of renovations,” the council stressed.
