Algarve + Sustentável

Aljezur hosts “Algarve + Sustentável”

The region’s largest nature and sustainability tourism event is back between October 18 and 22.

“Algarve + Sustentável”, the largest nature and sustainability tourism event of the region, which brings together the Nature Tourism Biennial (BTN) and the Algarve Nature Fest (ANF), takes place once again in the village of Aljezur, between October 18 and 22.

This event marks the 2nd phase of “Algarve + Sustentável”, which saw its first instalment happen in October 2021.

The event starts on the 18th with Nature Tourism Activities and Awareness of Good Practices for youngsters, including a walk along the Amoreira Circular Route, bird watching, whale watching, a visit to a sweet potato agricultural production and more.

The following three days are aimed at professionals, with an exhibition area where companies from various sectors can present their products and services, create business opportunities and establish contacts with agents from other activities.

The inauguration of the professional sessions will take place on October 19, at 09:30, with the opening ceremony of the Exhibition and Debate Space and the start of the Knowledge Workshops. This moment will be attended by the organising entities, Associação Vicentina, Algarve Tourism Region and Aljezur Municipality, as well as public and private entities linked to tourism, sustainability and the environment.

Topics such as the conscious use of natural resources, the creation of environmentally responsible tourist services, and the implementation of green technologies in hotels and other companies in the sector will be addressed in the 2nd Phase of “Algarve + Sustentável”. Other themes include waste treatment, the ecological production of goods and the (re)use of goods and energy.

The last day, October 22, is open to the general public. The day’s activities include a walk along the Rota Vicentina, bird watching, a nest-box workshop and a sustainable surf lesson.

According to the president of the Associação Vicentina, Aura Fraga, the region is initiating a new phase. “Having consolidated the region’s natural heritage as a great asset to develop environmentally qualified territories, the new challenge is to continue structuring a differentiated tourist offer of quality to guarantee sustainable tourism”, she affirmed.

The President of the Tourism Region, João Fernandes, reiterates that “the path to sustainable tourist destinations is increasingly imperative. Events such as “Algarve + Sustentável” are fundamental in changing the mindset of the different stakeholders, particularly among the new generations, who are more aware of the impacts of their actions and the opportunities for improvement.”

The complete schedule of the 2nd phase of “Algarve + Sustentável” is available on www.algarvemaissustentavel.pt.

All activities are free, although registration is mandatory due to the limited number of participants.
