A west coast group supporting their local animal shelter is hosting a charity Carnaval party on Saturday, March 2.
The Friends of AEZA are staging the event at the Restaurant Vale da Telha, aiming to raise funds that will help build feeding stations for the area’s street cats.
The group was created to supports Aljezur’s animal welfare charity AEZA (association for environment and animal protection of Aljezur), a non-profit association whose main objective is to provide abandoned animals decent conditions to live in, with shelter, food, care and health care.
The Friends of AEZA stage a number of events through the year to provide financial support for the shelter.
And this latest venture is taking place in the build-up to Portugal’s Carnaval 2019 which is to be celebrated on Tuesday, March 5.
The Carnaval, also known as Entrudo, is a pagan festival that is always celebrated on the Tuesday that falls 47 days before Easter Sunday.
The Friends of AEZA party begins at 7.30pm and tickets cost €15 for an adult and €5 for children under 12.
The price covers a hot and cold Portuguese and English buffet meal, including ‘bacalhau com natas’, chicken, chips and salad.
There will be musical entertainment, prizes for the best costumes and a raffle for a large hamper and other prizes.
