Algarve’s whistleblower doctor takes a break

Young doctor Diana Pereira Carvalho – famous now for having blown the whistle on alleged botched surgeries at Faro Hospital for which two senior surgeons have since been temporarily suspended – has resigned from her recent internship at Portimão Hospital explaining that she is dealing with repercussions of her actions, and “needs to rest, be with my family, study and prepare myself for the future”. Her experience of Portimão is a hospital “totally different and organised and with good professionals”, but she was not assigned a tutor/ mentor – and “all the reprisals that have followed have affected (her) mental health”, she says.
