The Kamov helicopter seasonally stationed in the Algarve to help with the summer’s toll of forest fires has returned to its winter base in Évora, leaving the region with just one chopper to be used in emergencies during the next few months.
“I hope this won’t affect our ability to act and that we don’t have to hold anyone responsible if an emergency situation happens,” said Jorge Botelho, the president of the Algarve’s Municipalities Association (AMAL).
The remaining helicopter is stationed in Loulé.
