A record number of 229 backpacks and gym bags have been distributed among the Algarve’s neediest schoolchildren following the ninth annual backpack drive. It was organised by Silves-based charity Castelo de Sonhos with the help of the Holiday Inn Algarve and Golf Shack in Alcantarilha.
Special thanks have been made to the congregations at Gorjões and Praia da Luz churches, which collected a “huge sum to purchase backpacks and gym bags”, as well as to Elspeth Flood in the eastern Algarve who “coordinated a very generous donation”.
