Algarve’s Farol Island among “best hidden gems in Europe”

Sesimbra also featured on list

Ilha do Farol (Farol island) in Olhão has been featured on a list of the 22 best hidden gems in Europe compiled by online portal European Best Destinations (EBD).

Says the website, “the islands of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve are the secret islands where to recharge your batteries this summer.”

It adds that visitors will be “amazed” by Farol Island’s “magnificent tiny holiday homes built on this island and the relaxing and lazy atmosphere.

“The sunsets are sublime and a change of scenery is guaranteed,” EBD adds.

Also recommended is Armona Island which has a “rustic campsite for simple and natural holidays on a carefree island,” while those looking to meet the locals are advised to visit Culatra Island with its “small fishing community.”

The Portuguese town of Sesimbra is also featured on the list, with EBD highlighting its inclusive beach Praia de Ouro and the wide range of activities that can be enjoyed from kitesurfing and paddling to canoeing.
