The new spring production from the Algarveans Theatre Group will premiere on the stage of the São Lourenço International School on Friday May 21 and Saturday 22. Then it will move on to the Lagos Cultural Centre for two performances on the Wednesday and Thursday of the following week.
Director Alison Slater is delighted that for the first time audiences in the central Algarve will see all the hard work the cast have put into rehearsals. “Until now all our pantomimes and plays have only been seen by those willing to travel to Lagos, so this is a great opportunity for anyone living nearer Faro to enjoy one of our productions,” she explained.
Stepping Out tells the very human story of a group of people who meet every week in a hall to learn tap dancing. As they progress in their lessons the audience learns more about their hopes, disappointments and ambitions as they all work towards a common goal — a charity concert — where they will show off their skills as performers.
Many of the Algarveans involved in the play had never tap-danced before rehearsals started and have thoroughly enjoyed this new learning curve in their lives. Their hard work has ensured that the play offers a night at the theatre for the whole family to enjoy.
