Algarve wines seek glory in Lagoa

A contest to elect the Algarve’s top wines will take place at the São José Convent in Lagoa on Sunday, March 19.

A jury of specialists from Portugal’s Sommelier Association (AEP) will blind taste dozens of regional wines, including reds, whites and rosés.

“This is an important event in the sense that we distinguish the quality and typicality of our wines,” said Carlos Gracias, president of the Algarve’s wine commission (CVA).

The Algarve Wine Contest is taking place for the 10th time.

Top wines will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, while the wine the jury considers the absolute best will receive a grand gold medal.

All awards will be handed out at the Lagoa Wine Show, taking place at the end of April.
