Members of the Algarve Wine Society travelled to the Bairrada wine region earlier this month to discover the wines made there.
As part of the trip, the 38 members visited the wine museum, Bairrada Museu do Vinho, the Luis Pato winery and the military museum in Bussaco Forest, which commemorates the battle of Bussaco in 1810 in which Wellington commanded a joint British-Portuguese force to defeat the French.
The following day, members visited the convent in the Bussaco Palace Hotel’s grounds before heading off to see the Caves de São Domingos.Lunch was held at modern Quinta do Encontro winery followed by a visit to Campolargo winery.
The next activities planned by the Algarve Wine Society will be a tasting of the Ribatejo wines of Fiuza and Bright at the EVA Hotel in Faro on Thursday, May 28 and the annual golf outing at Quinta da Cima followed by the summer party at the Tavira Pousada on Sunday, June 28.
