Algarve welcomes world premiere of “Algarvia”

Alissa Firsova (piano) and Daniel Rowland (violin) will give two concerts at Os Agostos country estate near Santa Bárbara de Nexe this month. The first, on Tuesday June 11, will include the world premiere of Alissa’s latest composition “Algarvia” as well as pieces by Elgar and Walton. The second, on Thursday June 13, will feature compositions by Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel and Franck as well as “Algarvia”. Alissa composed “Algarvia” during a recent trip to the Algarve.

Alissa Firsova is a multi-talented musician. She is an acclaimed pianist, a conductor and a talented composer. Alissa was born to Russian parents, who are both composers, and she now lives in London. She gave her Wigmore Hall and Proms debuts in 2009 and has since played in numerous concert venues throughout Europe and the USA. Alissa has enjoyed collaborations with many distinguished musicians including Andrew Marriner, Tim Hugh, Julius Berger, Roman Simovic and the Dante Quartet. Her debut solo piano CD “Russian Emigres” was released in 2015 with music by Rachmaninov, her parents and herself.

Daniel Rowland is a violinist. He was born in London to Dutch and English parents. He is internationally known as a highly versatile, charismatic and adventurous performer. Daniel has performed in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls including the Royal Albert Hall, Lisbon’s the Gulbenkian, Carnegie Hall in New York and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw. Apart from his core classical and romantic repertoire, Daniel is an enthusiastic advocate of 20th century and contemporary music. He is professor of violin at the Royal College of Music and gives master classes all over the world.

Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm sharp. Doors open at 6pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés are served. There will also be a short interval with refreshments served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.

The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 90 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and celebrated its 28th anniversary last year.
