news: Algarve Vintage Car Rally next month

THE ALGARVE Vintage Car Rally, organised by Clube Automóvel do Algarve, will be taking place on May 13, 14 and 15. This is the event’s third year and it’s now entering into a new phase to allow a greater diversity of entrants.

There will be three sections: vintage cars dating back to 1905, classic sports cars from the years 1961-1979 and a category called Classe Turística (tourist class), open to all cars in original working condition, manufactured before December 1979.

The starting point is Faro where entrants will have their documents and technical information checked at the car park of the Eva Hotel on Friday evening. The following morning, the cars will be setting off from a parking area alongside the Porto de Recreio, with participants enjoying a journey that will take them through an assortment of towns and villages up to the Serra de Monchique. Those in the competitive section will undertake a skills test in Armação de Pêra’s Avenida Beira Mar at around 12.20pm. Further performance tests will take place in the afternoon, which will be followed by a dinner at Fábrica do Inglês in Silves. Sunday morning sees the cars drive off on another route, with those competing performing a series of further tests. A prize-giving lunch at Faro’s Hotel Eva will draw the event to a close.

Anyone interested in taking part in the Classe Turística should contact the Clube Automóvel do Algarve in Loulé on 289 400 330 by May 5. Entrance costs 200 euros per vehicle with two people and includes all the social events.
