Many of the Algarve’s leading property businesses have joined forces for an exhibition to be held next month in Vilamoura showcasing the best of the region’s real estate.
The Resident Group is the official media partner in the event, which has been designed to re-ignite buyer interest in the market.
The Algarve Property Show, from June 10 to 12, is organised by Open Media S.A., the publishers of Essential Algarve magazine, and has the financial backing of the Algarve Regional Tourism Authority.
Open Media CEO Bruce Hawker spoke to the Algarve Resident about how the initiative has taken shape.“The seed of the idea came from Mr. André Jordan. We have been working closely with him on other projects and he approached us with the idea of doing something in the Algarve to get everyone together and transmit a positive message to the market.
“Mr. Jordan is rightly considered to be the father of leisure-based real estate in the region, having founded Quinta do Lago and continued by re-developing Vilamoura, and is perhaps better placed than anyone to sense that the time is right to make something happen,” said Bruce.
“With Mr. Jordan’s help, we approached the Algarve Regional Tourism Authority to present the initial idea of staging an event with their backing. Holiday home ownership has finally been recognised by the government as an integral part of the Algarve’s appeal to foreign visitors and through ATA, the external promotional body, we were able to secure funding to cover a large slice of the marketing costs.”
The next step was to gather together a group of people and entities to make it a reality, among them the Tivoli Marina Hotel whose congress centre at Vilamoura Marina will stage the show. Then came design and marketing experts Atelier do Sul who, as the official design partner, have produced the website and all marketing materials. Other official partners in the event are the British-Portuguese Chambers of Commerce in London and in Lisbon, along with The Resident Group.
The three-day event will feature a special property auction and a programme of seminars providing visitors with first-hand advice on buying property and living in the Algarve.
“We are marketing the event with a total budget in the region of €100,000 both here in the Algarve and in the UK,” said Bruce.
“We hope that some people from the UK will make a point of being here for the show but, more important, we will make sure that anyone who is here and interested in property will get the message and visit the exhibition.”
The marketing campaign in Portugal will include road hoardings and an intensive leafleting campaign at Faro Airport as well as local press and other activities.
At the time of going to press, more than 20 of the 30 exhibition spaces available had been secured. According to Bruce Hawker, the exhibitors are people who understand the importance of reaching potential buyers while they are here on the ground.
“The beauty of this event is that buyers can visit, meet the agent or developer and then go and visit a property straight away if they wish. You can’t offer that at an exhibition in the UK but, more important, we know that every potential buyer who visits the show is interested in the Algarve so they are, in real estate jargon, ‘qualified leads’.”
Apart from developers and estate agents, exhibitors include various companies offering related services from building to interior design, financial services and legal advice.
