MONTENEGRO’S ESCOLA E.B.2/3 was the setting recently for a display by folklore troupe Grupo Folclórico e Etnográfico Amigos do Montenegro, who demonstrated the traditional way of stripping corn back in the olden days in the Algarve.
Following the age-old tradition, the single men of the group, being lucky enough to find purple corn among the cobs, were given the chance to receive a kiss from the single women.
The event was attended by the president of Faro Câmara, José Apolinário, and the president of Montenegro Junta de Freguesia. Guests were also treated to a range of traditional snacks and desserts, including baked sweet potatoes, roast chestnuts, sweet rice and cakes.
