Algarve tourism board promotes new air links to Spain

Algarve tourism board (RTA) will be holding two promotional events in Spain to promote new air links connecting Faro to Madrid and Barcelona.

The first will take place on May 28, at the Portuguese Embassy in Madrid, marking the reopening of the Faro-Madrid route which Spanish airline Air Nostrum closed down nine years ago
Aimed at the city’s tour operators, media and local entities, the event will also include a ‘showcooking’ slot on Cataplana Algarvia – the traditional shellfish stew cooked in a copper clam-shaped pot.

Then on June 16, the RTA team will move on to Barcelona to present Vueling’s new link to Faro, scheduled to begin on June 20.

Desidério Silva called the opening of links “great news”, especially as the Spanish market is “currently growing in the Algarve”.

In 2014, the number of Spanish overnight stays increased 25%. This year, the RTA hopes it will register one million stays from Spanish tourists.
