Algarve to dodge worst of Portugal’s rainy weather this weekend

Meteorologists are forecasting a rainy weekend for almost all of mainland Portugal except the Algarve.

The region is expecting cloudy skies but little to no rainfall, according to Portugal’s sea and atmosphere institute (IPMA).

As usual, the weather will be milder in the Algarve than the rest of the country.

Maximum temperatures are due to top 20ºC on Saturday, while minimums will likely stay above 15ºC. On Sunday however, temperatures will be dropping several degrees.

Meanwhile, all of coastal Portugal will be under yellow alert over the weekend due to rough seas, with waves due to reach heights of 12 metres.

Thus the appeal from authorities is to ‘be vigilant’ near coastal areas, especially in the centre and north regions where the waves are expected to be more dangerous.
