Algarve to create “better conditions” for motorhomers

Motorhoming in the Algarve is set to become a great deal easier. As we went to press, authorities were due to sign a new agreement for a “regional strategy for the sector”, opening up new motorhome-friendly locations.

As reported in the national press, motorhomes bring thousands of tourists to the Algarve every year – many during the low-season winter months when business otherwise would be bleak. In 2014 alone, numbers are thought to have been in the region of 60,000.

Thus stories of four-wheeled travellers then being evicted en-masse from popular sites (see: https://www.portugalresident.com/gnr-red-faced-as-silves-campers-return) do no-one any favours.

The new protocol was due to be signed at 5pm on Wednesday (January 21) by the regional development commission (CCDR Algarve), the Algarve Municipalities Association (AMAL), the regional tourism board (RTA) and the Algarve tourism association (ATA).
