TAXI DRIVERS working in the Algarve are to receive foreign language tuition and attend customer service and public relations courses.
The news was announced by the Algarve Tourism Board, the entity responsible for their professional training, following the signing of an agreement between the drivers’ trade body, the Associação Nacional dos Transportes em Automóveis Ligeiros, the national association for transport provided by passenger vehicles and the regional branch of the Instituto do Emprego e Formação (the institute for employment and training).
The objective of the agreement is to develop 14 different training initiatives for the benefit of 210 taxi drivers.
According to the tourism board, the quality of customer service received by taxi passengers is very important in the Algarve since tourism is the main economic activity in the region.
Taxi drivers enjoy frequent contact with Portuguese and foreign tourists and are in a key position to contribute towards establishing a good image for the Algarve as a tourist destination.
