Four Algarve towns have made it to the list of Portugal’s top 25 destinations, as compiled by city branding company Bloom Consulting: Faro (11th), Albufeira (18th), Portimão (19th) and Lagos (25th).
This is the second year running that Bloom has released its ‘Portugal City Brand Ranking’ list, featuring all the nation’s boroughs – from best to worst – taking into account their performance in the categories of “business, tourism and quality of living”.
Lisbon comes out tops, scoring first place in all three categories. Porto, Braga, Cascais and Coimbra follow in the top five.
The Algarve towns made it onto the Top 25 listing “mostly due to their excellence in tourism”, says Bloom.
“The great strength of the Algarve is tourism, with Albufeira being the best tourist destination of the region and the third best in Portugal, only behind Lisbon and Funchal,” the agency added.
The regional ranking features Faro (pictured) in first place – considered the best town in which to do business and live – with Albufeira second, ahead of Portimão, Lagos and Loulé.
Bloom’s general director for Portugal, Filipe Roquette, said the goal of the study is to “measure the efficiency of the strategy each municipality uses to manage its brand”.
“We believe that with this analysis, we have the ability to help municipalities decide how to set their priorities, but also make them understand the way they are perceived in Portugal and abroad,” he added.
