Algarve surfer Yolanda Hopkins qualifies for Olympic quarter finals

The Algarve’s very own Yolanda Hopkins has qualified for the quarter finals of the Olympic surfing competition, having eliminated France’s Johanne Defay in the third round in the early hours of this Monday morning.

Competing at Tsurigasaki beach in Chiba (Japan), the 23-year-old surfer obtained a score of 10.84 points (6.17 and 4.67) against Defay’s 9.40 (5,83 and 3,57).

Hopkins will face South African surfer Bianca Buitendag in the quarter finals tomorrow.

In her first Olympic participation ever, Hopkins has already guaranteed an Olympic diploma and is closer than ever to bringing home an Olympic medal.
