Algarve students raise funds for  tragedy victims in Madeira

Children from the International School of the Algarve raised more than 4,000 euros during the spring term, largely in response to the tragedies in Madeira, Chile and Haiti.

In the last week of the spring term, the students organised a fair with stalls, side shows and games while there was also a science fair in the laboratories where older children demonstrated experiments to the younger pupils.  These events raised 885 euros for the charity funds, which was added to 3,000 euros collected in the first part of the term.

Meanwhile, over two days of the school’s cultural week, pupils were encouraged to bring coins to school and place them on an outline map of Haiti set up in the school library.  When the collage was deconstructed, senior students counted over 200 euros worth of change which will now be sent, with the other funds raised earlier in the term, to Portuguese charity AMI (Assistência Médica Internacional).
