Algarve student art competition

Following the success of the 1st Students Prize Algarve which ended in May, the art initiative is again inviting pupils from years 10, 11 and 12 to participate.

The main purpose of the competition is to inspire and reward young artists in the community, to encourage cultural development and raise funds for disadvantaged children in the Algarve.

Students Prize Algarve is an initiative by the Sovereign Art Foundation and organised by Sovereign Consultoria Lda, together with support from media partner Open Media, publishers of the Algarve Resident, both based in Lagoa.

All schools are invited to submit the artwork of five students for review by a panel of judges who will select the “best 20”. These artworks will then be exhibited to the public at various locations in the Algarve.

The first and second prize winners chosen by the judges will be announced at the final of the event in April 2018. The third prize will be awarded to the artwork which receives the most votes from the public, both online and directly during the public exhibitions. Prizes will be awarded to the winning artists and their schools.

The final 20 artworks will be auctioned to the public with the proceeds being divided between the artists and a local charity to be chosen by Sovereign.

The 2016/2017 prize raised €2,060 from the sale of the artwork, half of which went to the artists themselves and half to charity. The response from local councils to the exhibitions was very positive and therefore organisers hope that the 2nd Students Prize Algarve will be even more successful.
