Algarve bowls

TAVIRA PLAYED host to the second series of the Summer League bowls matches, on May 19.

PDF Pirates beat CPO Cats by 34–29 and VDL Wolves lost to Alvor Doves. PDF Panthers also lost to Alvor Larks, who triumphed by 36–27 and Titans defeated the Tigers by 38–35.

Alvor Larks are at the top of the league, with 14 points, followed by Doves, Tigers and Pirates on 12 points, with the Titans on 10 points. CPO Cats and VDL Wolves have 8 points and PDF Panthers have 4 points.

Friendly football fun

A FRIENDLY football tournament took place, last weekend, at Academia de Futebol Alto da Colina, in Albufeira.

The home team, sponsored by The Resident, played against Faro based boys’ home, Instituto D. Francisco Gomes. After losing their first match 6-1, the home team triumphed in the second match, scoring 9-5.

Speedsters

THE GUADIANA river and Monte Gordo bay will be the venue of the Formula 2000 World Jet-ski Championships, this weekend.

Organised by the Guadiana Naval Association, the two-day competition will include ‘Match-race’, ‘Speed Contest’ and ‘Race’ categories.

Brothers to the fore

PAUL AND David Nagle, from Ireland, have recently acquired the Colina Verde golf resort with its nine-hole course near Moncarapacho, east of Faro.

The brothers immediately set about an upgrading program, employing more staff as well as refurbishing and improving the on-site restaurant. In addition, the gym has received a facelift and two new massage rooms will be completed shortly.

Together with the introduction of its own airport transfer service, Colina Verde aims to transform itself into a golf-orientated family holiday destination under its new owners.
