Algarve, Spain and USA among Portuguese holiday choices

Nine out of 10 Portuguese are planning to go away on holiday in 2017, with the Algarve, Spain and United States of America among the most popular destinations.

At least, this is the result of a study by Portugal’s Institute for Tourism Development (IPDT) based on the answers of 600 people who were quizzed about their holiday plans this year.

The Algarve is the top choice within Portugal – especially among those planning a longer holiday during the summer months of July, August and September – while Spain (No. 1) and the US (No. 2) are the most popular destinations abroad.

The study also found that 86% of people want to take around two or three “short breaks” this year, with Porto, the north of Portugal, the Alentejo and the archipelagos of Madeira and Azores seen as most fitting the bill for these quickie interludes.
