Following the success of its first edition, the Algarve Sevens rugby tournament is returning to Vila Real de Santo António on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.
Among the confirmed participants are the national teams of Italy, Romania, Hong Kong, France and Portugal as well as prestigious sides such as Samurai, Seventise, French Fijians, 7Fantastics and Susies, the 2018 Algarve Sevens champions.
All in all, the tournament will feature 60 teams and 1,000 players from all over the world who will be competing at VRSA’s renowned sports complex.
“The first edition of Algarve Sevens was important to our local economy. We are very happy to again be hosting the tournament in Vila Real de Santo António and hope the partnership will be renewed,” said VRSA mayoress Conceição Cabrita.
José de Moraes from Sports Ventures, the event’s organiser, says that the support of VRSA council has been “vital since the very first day”.
“This year, the Portuguese Rugby Federation is also a partner. I think the tournament is set for success. The Elite Tournament is of very high level. Our goal is to make Algarve Sevens an authentic Rugby Festival,” he said.
