During the recent somewhat warm weather, the organisers of the July Algarve Senior Bikers (ASB) ride decided to head towards the cooler west coast and were lucky enough to find a cooling breeze for most of the trip.
Lead rider for the day was Andrew Chilton who was assisted in the planning and on the day by Roy West, David Shirley and Michael Jensen, also acting as group photographer.
Leaving the meeting point near Odiáxere, the group of 27 riders headed west through to Burgau and along the coast road overlooking the ocean to Salema; then further on along the coast and inland to Vila do Bispo for a quick break before heading northeast via Monte Ruivo and down the Pincho valley to follow the road north along the Barragem da Bravura. Eventually arriving in Marmelete for a return visit for lunch at Restaurant Sol e Serra to complete the ride. After enjoying lunch, riders made their own way home to places all across the Algarve.
“We were pleased to welcome Gunter and Jutta Herbold from Germany. They visit the Algarve every year for the Faro concentration and still came even though it will not take place this year and always try to fit in a couple of rides with the ASB,” said David Shirley, founder of Algarve Senior Bikers.
