Portugal’s southern Algarve region saw 31,313 people unemployed in December, a 60.8% hike compared to the same month in 2019, according to data released by the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
In relation to November, registered unemployment increased by 7.7%, according to the figures. The Algarve was the country’s region with the highest year-on-year increase in unemployed people registered.
Lisbon saw the second largest increase, with unemployment rising by 41.1%. Alentejo registered an increase of 18.9%. Unemployment at a national level increased by 29.6% year-on-year.
