Loulé Rugby Club missed out on the national second division championship when going down 13-23 to Coimbra during the competition’s final in Lisbon last Saturday. The Algarveans thus ended the season with a proud record of 14 victories, one draw and only two defeats.
Meanwhile the sport’s Portuguese Federation has announced that the former Euro’2004 Stadium of the Algarve is to host the final qualification games for the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Championship, now also an Olympic discipline, on July 20 and 21. The ‘Lobos’ Portuguese national side will face some of their counterparts from France, Scotland, Spain, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Holland and the Ukraine as well as three further countries yet to be named for the five European berths available.
