Algarve restaurant Ocean run by Chef Hans Neuner at the Vila Vita Parc resort in Porches has made the top-100 of La Liste, a ranking of the world’s 1000 best restaurants.
The two Michelin starred eatery is the only Portuguese restaurant among the top-100, placed in 76th position.
Belcanto in Lisbon (101st), led by famous Chef José Avillez, is the second best placed Portuguese restaurant, followed by Albufeira’s Vila Joya (142nd) and Cascais’ Fortaleza do Guincho (184th).
Ill Gallo D’Oro in Madeira (265th), Arcadas in Coimbra (504th) and Henrique Leis in Almancil (506th) also made the list.
The world’s best restaurant is Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville in Crissier, Switzerland, with Per Se in New York, USA and Kyo Aji in Tokyo, Japan completing the top-three.
According to the ranking’s website, La Liste uses “score averaging and semantic analysis” to create the list, searching in “over 200 food guides, review sites, gourmet blogs, social media, and major national and local publications in 48 countries”.
The goal is to create an unbiased list, using reviews from a number of sources including the Michelin guide, TripAdvisor and Google Reviews.
