Algarve Resident makes first donation to Portuguese Firefighters League

Thanks to the generous donations of our readers, the Algarve Resident has been able to make a first donation of €1,241.42 to the Liga dos Bombeiros Portugueses (Portuguese Firefighters League) as part of our ‘Portugal’s Fire Heroes Appeal’ GoFundMe campaign.

This is the initial tranche of what we hope will be a much larger donation. The campaign is ongoing and is open to anyone willing to help.

As we all know, Portugal is in the peak of the wildfire season, with several new fires breaking out every day across the country. Five firefighters have already lost their lives this year.

Making matters worse are the new risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, as efforts to reduce large numbers of people in any one space and promote physical distancing are having an impact on the capacity and efficiency of combat teams, whether voluntary firefighters/Civil Protection command posts, or even the pilots of firefighting planes.

This is why it is so important to make sure that our firefighters are adequately prepared to face this fire season. Making a contribution, however small, is a great way of giving something back and showing your appreciation for their work.

To make a donation, all you need to do is include your first and last names, your email, your country of residence and zip code and your credit card information.
