At the invitation of Porsche Ibérica, the Algarve Resident was among the first media vehicles to attend the International Press Launch of the new Porsche Cayman, held between Faro, Lagos and Portimão.
The Algarve was chosen as the ideal location for its unique characteristics.
Until the end of this month, journalists from all corners of the globe will be in the region to explore the new mid-engined sports coupé from Stuttgart. They will not only take to the best mountain roads of the region but also drive through the challenging bends of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
The Yellow Meia Praia Hotel in Lagos has been closed exclusively for the launch and the Porsche showroom in Faro will be the make’s logistical centre.
Racing experience
We had the chance to talk to high-ranked Porsche engineers responsible for the Cayman, as well as ride shotgun with arguably the best rally driver of all time, Walter Roehrl, around the Portimão circuit, before chasing him in another Porsche to truly make the most of this vehicle around the track.
Lighter, yet bigger, than its predecessor, the Cayman comes in standard and S guises, which means a choice between a 2.7 litre flat-six boasting 275 horse power and the same 3.4 litres engine unit found in the 911 Carrera, producing 325 horse power.
It is unquestionably one of the best cars in the world.
