The Algarve continues to lead the way in recycling, with the region achieving the best results nationally for waste separation last year.
According to data released from ALGAR, the company responsible for solid waste treatment in the region, by the end of October, almost 22,000 tonnes of recyclable waste was collected in the region .
Portimão was the council with the largest amount collected – more than 4,500 tonnes.
According to ALGAR Manager Hélio Barros, “the increase in recycled products is related to the economic crisis. People produce more waste because they are going more to supermarkets and less to restaurants.”
