The Algarve produced around 95% of Portuguese sea salt last year. In fact, it was the only region where the number of salt pans grew.
The information has been revealed in the annual report for fishing statistics carried out by the national statistics institute (INE) and the national board of natural resources, safety and maritime services (DGRM).
