Home team Algarve Pro Racing were crowned the 2023 European Le Mans Series LMP2 Drivers and Teams champions after finishing second in the final race of the season, the 4 Hours of Portimão, on Sunday (October 22) at the Algarve International Racetrack.
In a race marked by heavy rain, the APR crew of Kyffin Simpson, James Allen and Alex Lynnc trailed only the United Autosports team of Oliver Jarvis, Marino Sato and Phil Hanson, helping secure the season title and an automatic invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year.
“Delighted we got to celebrate our maiden European Le Mans Series Overall and LMP2 Championships on the winners’ rostrum at home,” the Algarve-based team wrote on Facebook after the win.
Proton Competition, represented by Ryan Hardwick, Zach Robichon and Alessio Picariello, secured their fourth ELMS LMGTE title, while the AF Corse trio of François Perrodo, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Ben Barnicoat sealed the LMP2 Pro/Am team and driver titles.
Last but not least, the LMP3 Championship was secured by COOL Racing Ligier for the second year in a row, with Adrien Chila, Alejandro Garcia and Marcos Siebert winning the title with a fourth-place finish on Friday’s 4 Hours of Algarve.
