The Algarve’s only American football team, the ‘Algarve Pirates’, continue their 2014 campaign with a home game this weekend against the Maximinos Warriors from Braga. The game will be played at the Pirates’ changed venue ground at the Amendoeira Sports Centre at the resort near Alcantarilha on Saturday March 8, with kick-off at 2pm.
Entry is free and it promises to be a very exciting game against a new team in the Portuguese League.
With defeats in their last three games, the Pirates are anxious to get back to the form that gave their win at home in the first game of the season. Acting Head Coach Pedro Viana said: “The Pirates are looking forward to welcoming their Head Coach, Don Dixon, back to the team after his two-month working trip in America.
“In the last two games we have been without a few players for various reasons and whilst the rest of the squad fought hard and played well, it’s a very tiring game if you don’t have enough substitutes. However, with close to a full squad and having Don back with us, we really believe that we can get back to top form.”
