Outdoor shows, a concert with American musician Mike Patton and a pyrotechnics show at Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira are the main highlights by the Algarve Orchestra (OA) for August.

Tomorrow (Saturday), OA performs Music for Movies at Quinta do Lago, with musical direction by John Avery.

Then on Sunday (August 8), the OA collaborates with Mike Patton, lead singer of Faith No More, in his latest project Mondo Cane at Festival Sudoeste in Zambujeira do Mar.

On August 15, the Orchestra is at the Calçadão de Quarteira in the municipality of Loulé, featuring the music of Mozart and Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Dvorak and Strauss, among many others, with musical direction by Maestro José Eduardo Gomes.

After the success achieved in previous years, the OA is back at Praia dos Pescadores in Albufeira on August 20 for another edition of Sons Ardentes.

Classical music will be played alongside a pyrotechnics and scenography show under the musical direction of maestro Osvaldo Ferreira and accompanied by the voice of soprano Eduarda Melo.

This show is a partnership between Albufeira Câmara, the Algarve Orchestra and the Portugal Tourism Board, part of the classical music programme of Allgarve 2010.

On August 21, culture and history will come together in the cycle of concerts Music in Monuments, organised by the Algarve Orchestra in a co-production with the Regional Department of Culture of the Algarve with the support of company STAP, which restores degraded historical buildings.

Aljezur Castle, one of the most important monuments in the Algarve, will be the site for a violin duo by Laurentiu Simões and Jan Pipal.

The final concert of the month is scheduled for August 27 at Silves Cathedral. This concert will be dedicated to Haydn and Mendelssohn and features the musical direction of João Tiago Santos.
