Concert is free

The Algarve Orchestra (Orquestra do Algarve) will perform its usual New Year’s concert at the Tempo municipal theatre in Portimão on Friday, January 5.

The orchestra, led by maestro Pablo Urbina, will be interpreting works by Félix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Tiago Derriça, Antonín Dvórák, Mélanie Bonis, and Johann Strauss.

Born in 1988 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country, Pablo Urbina has been the principal conductor of the Orchestra Vitae in London since 2019 and an ambassador for The Amber Trust 22-23. Says the municipal council in a statement to the press, “he has distinguished himself in leading the Spanish National Radio Orchestra, the Balearic Symphony Orchestra, the Tenerife Opera, and the Waco Symphony in Texas.”

The show will be free, although tickets must be picked up from the Tempo box office starting on January 3 between 1pm and 6pm.
